Michael Franke was born in Hilden, near Cologne in Germany.
After high school, he studied nursing in Stuttgart, Germany and worked as a nurse at a university teaching hospital until his photography hobby ‘pulled’ me away to study at London College of Printing (now LCC and part of The University of Arts London).
Franke graduated with a BA (hons) in photography in 1997 and has since been working as a freelance photographer.
In his view, professional photography and nursing are not as far apart as it appears. In both, positive results rely on successful communication, experience, trust and attention to detail.
Franke lives in Camberwell, South London.
