WHY CATALUNYA IS THE PERFECT LOCATION FOR NETFLIX SERIES ‘WHO IS ERIN CARTER?’
Who Is Erin Carter is a high-end TV action thriller, starring Evin Ahmad, produced by Left Bank Pictures for Netflix with assistance from the Catalunya Film Commission (CFC).
The seven-part series tells the story of a UK teacher in Barcelona with a secret past and an ability to kick ass, whose previous life threatens her and her family's tranquil existence. From planning to shooting, the creative team, including series creator Jack Lothian, initially considered setting and shooting the production in Latin America, however, during pre-production, it was decided to stay in Europe and shoot in Spain, in the region of Barcelona.
The story needed Erin Carter living in suburbia and to be plausibly brushing up against organized crime. The range of architecture and locations, as well as the light in Catalonia, sealed the deal. The production took place in the suburbs and towns surrounding Barcelona, including the coastal town of Sitges. Production partner Mike Day's highly experienced Palma Pictures facilitated the tax rebate. The crew of 300 people included a mix of UK and local Catalonians, and the local crew proved as good as they come.
The biggest challenge was the sheer scale of the production, which was met with hard-working, positive professionals creating a good atmosphere.
We expect to see more coming out of the region and look forward to launching some new locations in early 2024 that call Spain home.
