FILM LOCATIONS: YELLOWSTONE
Uncover the Stunning Filming Locations of Yellowstone
Calling all Yellowstone fans! After years of eager anticipation, the second half of season 5 has arrived, promising an electrifying conclusion to the Dutton family's epic saga. Rumours of a possible season 6 are swirling, but one thing is certain: the breathtaking filming locations are as much a star of the show as its unforgettable characters.
If you're a producer seeking spectacular backdrops or a property owner considering making your site available for filming, Silverstein Locations is your trusted film locations broker. Based in London with an international reach, we specialise in connecting productions with exceptional locations worldwide—just like those seen in Yellowstone.
Where Is Yellowstone Filmed?
The visually stunning world of the Dutton family is brought to life with extraordinary filming locations, blending rugged landscapes and authentic ranch life. While the series revolves around a cattle ranch in Montana, the first three seasons were primarily filmed in Utah, including areas like Park City, Ogden, and Spanish Fork. The iconic Broken Rock Indian Reservation scenes, however, were shot at the Crow Indian Reservation in southern Montana.
From season 4 onwards, most of the filming shifted to Montana for financial reasons, with cities like Missoula and Helena—where Beth’s office scenes are set—featuring prominently. Even the Dutton family's impressive log cabin is real! Situated on the Chief Joseph Ranch near Darby, Montana, this 5,000-square-foot mansion doubles as a working cattle ranch and a picturesque filming location.
Montana, Utah, and Beyond – A Global Appeal
While Montana is now the primary filming hub, Yellowstone has ventured beyond its signature settings. For instance, scenes from season 4 were shot in Texas, where the cast and crew surprised locals by filming in a small-town café.
According to series creator Taylor Sheridan, filming at Mary’s Brazos Café in North Texas felt natural: “That’s where we have breakfast when I’m here.” Sheridan’s penchant for authentic settings extends to his upcoming series, 6666, which also showcases the Lone Star State.
Why Are Filming Locations So Vital?
Kevin Costner, who plays John Dutton, captured it best in an interview: “On the ranch, we’re filming where it’s actually set. It’s almost like the most central character.” Stunning locations anchor stories in reality, enriching production value and leaving lasting impressions on viewers.
